Nutmeg is the inner seed of a fruit that grows on the Nutmeg Tree. While you can purchase this spice in a ground form we recommend purchasing the whole spice and grinding it with a icrofile as it looses its flavor VERY quickly after it is ground but will retain its flavor for years if kept whole. 
 
In parts of Asia and Africa Nutmeg is used commonly in curries, rice, and many other regional dishes due to its bold pine and woody flavors. The main growing region of nutmeg is Indonesia coming from what is known as the “Spice Islands”. Most don’t know that Mace also comes from the same fruit and is removed from the outer part of the Nutmeg Seed.
