Similar to Szeged Paprika, Kalocsai Paprika may be lesser known in the west, but in Hungary it rivals Szeged for its robust paprika flavors. Its darker and richer and most Hungarians I have met actually prefer this Paprika.
Kalocsa has a long history of producing paprika. In the early 20th century the paprika of Kalocsa has become part of the Hungarian symbolic heritage. Kalocsa is responsible for about 40 percent of paprika production in the country and the spice is widely distributed abroad too.
