Related to the more well known "Chinese Five Spice", Vietnamese Five Spice isnt five spice at all! Its named this as it starts with the fundamental ingredients of Chinese Five, but then adds more complexity with Chinese Black Cardamom and Turmeric.
In Vietnam, Vietnamese Five Spice is used in stir fries, marinades, coconut milk soups and BBQ. It is a versatile spice that will surely add an addictive and delicious new flavour to your spice arsenal. In a recent trip to Saigon, we first experienced this spice on a stir fry squid dish and pork satay. This experience was enough to know that we had to get our hands on this spice!
