Red Ginger - Jahe Mera
Red ginger is a potent, red-skinned variety of ginger native to Southeast Asia. It is smaller than common ginger but packs a stronger, spicier flavour and floral aroma. It is frequently used in traditional herbal teas, tonics, and natural medicines, but throughout Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam it is becoming increasingly popular in curries, pastes, salads, cocktails and longevity drinks.
In Bali, it is commonly found in 'Base Ganep' The main paste used in almost all Balinese dishes including, coconut milk curry, smoked duck, BBQ pork and sate skewers.
